It’s no secret — it’s been raining more than usual around here lately. While the showers are great for our lawns and gardens, they can also bring some unwanted side effects, especially when it comes to animal stalls and chicken coops. Moisture leads to musky odors, mildew, ammonia buildup, and even mold and fungal growth if not managed properly.

If you’ve noticed a stronger smell than usual in your barn or coop, you’re not alone. Luckily, there are simple and effective ways to keep your animal areas clean, dry, and smelling fresh — even when the weather won’t cooperate.

1. Control Moisture and Ammonia Smell with Stall Dry or Sweet PDZ

One of the biggest culprits of unpleasant stall odors is ammonia from animal waste. Combine that with excess rain and humidity, and it becomes a breeding ground for smells and respiratory irritation.

Stall Dry and Sweet PDZ are excellent solutions. These absorbent powders neutralize ammonia, help dry out wet bedding, and keep stalls and coops more hygienic overall. Simply sprinkle on bedding or coop floors and reapply as needed.

2. Keep Chicken Coops Smelling Fresh with First Saturday Lime

When it comes to backyard chickens, moisture and droppings can lead to a real stink fast. First Saturday Lime is a safe, non-toxic option for deodorizing and controlling bacteria in your coop. It's safe around animals and even helps with insect control. Sprinkle it in nesting boxes, on coop floors, or around the perimeter to keep things cleaner and more comfortable for your flock.

3. Stop Fungal Growth in Lawns and Around Animal Areas

Rain doesn't just cause problems inside the coop or stall — it also encourages fungus growth in your lawn and ornamental areas. This can lead to slippery, unhealthy ground and even spread to structures.

We recommend Fertilome F-Stop in either granule or spray form. It's an effective fungicide that helps prevent and control mold, mildew, and fungus in grassy and landscaped areas. Safe for use around most animals once dry, it’s an excellent tool for keeping the whole area healthier and cleaner.

You can find all of these products right here at our store! Whether you're dealing with odor, moisture, or lawn fungus, we’ve got what you need to get ahead of the problem. Stop in and let us help you choose the best solution for your setup.

Stay dry (and odor-free) out there!
